Free Community Training – Mental Health Awareness Half day course

Building a healthy future

Due to funding restrictions this course is only open to people living in the city of Manchester, i.e. those with postcodes beginning ‘M’ followed by 1, 2, 3 (Manchester not Salford), 4, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 (Manchester not Trafford), 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 40 or 90.

1 in 4 of us experience a mental health problem every year.

There’s a huge range of mental health problems. But living well with or without a mental health problem is accessible to us all.

This half day course provides an overview of many mental health problems and the practical tools to help you manage your own mental well-being and support friends, family and colleagues.

What the course includes:

  • What is mental health?
  • The mental health continuum
  • Common myths and stereotypes
  • Causes, signs and symptoms of key mental health conditions (including depression, anxiety, psychosis, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, schizophrenia)
  • Spotting signs of stress
  • What can you do if you see someone struggling
  • What can you do for your own mental health
  • The 5 ways to wellbeing 
  • Signposting to local and national support agencies

On this course we will examine the preconceptions and fears surrounding mental health; increase your awareness of mental health issues and the impact they can have on individuals; increase your knowledge and confidence about mental health problems, including a basic knowledge of how to support those around you.
