Volunteer Opportunities: Allotment Support Volunteer

People gardening at the Manchester Mind allotment

Help us help others

We believe that everyone has value and has something to offer.

Volunteering at Manchester Mind can be a really rewarding and worthwhile experience and it can bring many benefits too – whether that’s learning new skills or rediscovering old skills and passing on skills, building confidence, meeting new people, being valued. All things that contribute to positive mental health.

Current Opportunities:

  • Allotment Support Volunteer

We are looking for someone with a Manchester postcode, who is able to build kind and supportive relationships with the people who attend our allotment sessions and help us to provide a safe and supportive community. You will help our Allotment Worker to set up and/or close down the sessions, take part in gardening and mental health activities and support people to access help, by actively listening to their needs.

Our weekly therapeutic gardening sessions utilise nature to support mental health at our Allotment Project in Chorlton at Southern Allotments.

To ensure that our garden is accessible to those people who need it most and is an inclusive and welcoming space, we have partnered with the Ethnic Health Forum and Safety 4 Sisters to support people from communities that experience racial inequality to take part. To support this vital work we are especially looking for volunteers who are also from racialised communities and for those who speak bi/multiple languages, or who have English as a second language.

We provide opportunities for people to relax, learn and share skills whilst socialising and building peer support within a community green space. We carry out gentle gardening activities, planting and growing fruits, vegetables and flowers. We make sure everyone is safe and feels heard. Everyone who attends can also be supported to access other services via Manchester Mind and external agencies.
