The leaflet gives some indication that HARP in the early days was part of a collective of groups who came together to help people living in Hulme and Moss Side with their health and wellbeing. The language clearly indicates that The Zion Community Health and Resource Centre (CHRC), which was the umbrella name, was based on activism and involvement of the local community. It had a clear campaign to improve services for local people, working alongside and influencing statutory agencies.
It gives a feeling of it being an early prototype of what developed later within the Zion Community Resource Centre building, which came about with the redevelopment of Hulme in the 1990’s.
It is also good to see that there are a number of organisations still in existence from those times such as Afro-Caribbean Mental Health Project, Homestart, Manchester Action on Street Health (MASH), and Black HIV/AIDS Forum (BHAF), all providing much needed services still.
