Mental Health Awareness Week 13-19 May: Movement
02/05/2024
This month we mark Mental Health Awareness Week. Starting on Monday 13 May, here at Manchester Mind we will be joining the Mental Health Foundation for the occasion.
Each year, for the last 24 years, the Mental Health Foundation has chosen a theme for the week. This year’s theme is Movement: Moving more for our mental health.
Getting active is one way to try to better manage your wellbeing.
It can help you feel good both on the inside and out. It does this by causing chemical changes in your brain, which can help to positively change your mood and can help with:
- Raising your self-esteem
- Setting goals or challenges and achieving them
- Reducing anxiety and stress
“…many of us struggle to move enough. We know there are many different reasons for this, so this Mental Health Awareness Week we want to help people to find moments for movement in their daily routines. Going for a walk in your neighbourhood, putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room, chair exercises when you’re watching television – it all counts!” Mental Health Foundation
We would love to hear from you including your tips that have helped you get more active. Please tag us and use the hashtags #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MomentsForMovement
