Peer Support

Our Adult Peer Support groups are run by people who use their own experiences to help each other.

About our Adult Peer Support groups

Our award-winning peer support groups offer a safe place to share, understand and give mutual support to people living in Manchester who are struggling with their mental health.

Peer support connects and provides a confidential place where people can listen to each other without judgement. Through sharing and understanding, we create better wellbeing, increased self-esteem and confidence.

“Being around people who have experienced mental health difficulties can give you a real sense of hope”

The groups are run by peer volunteers who have experienced mental health difficulties themselves.

Our groups are open to residents living in an area within Manchester City Council.

When do the groups meet?

We currently have 6 groups running each week:

  • Tuesday, 5.30pm-7pm: Zoom
  • Wednesday morning Walk and Talk: Alexandra Park, Moss Side/Whalley Range border
  • Wednesday, 2pm-4pm: Face to Face in Hulme, with the intention to also provide access via Zoom, if anyone struggles to attend face to face
  • Thursday, 10.30am-12.30pm: Face to face in Openshaw
  • Friday, 10am-12pm: Zoom
  • Friday, 2pm-4pm: Face to face in Harpurhey

How to join

4 of our current groups are full.  We are accepting referrals for:

  • Thursday face to face group
  • Our Friday online (Zoom) group

If you are interested in joining one of our peer support groups, please arrange an initial chat with one of our Peer Support Development Workers, Shamin or Sean. They will provide more information about how the groups work and answer any questions and concerns you may have. They will then arrange an assessment with you to find out more about any particular needs you have and to ensure peer support groups are right for you.

Although the groups are run by our volunteers, the Peer Support Development Workers can offer step by step support with accessing a group if you experience high levels of anxiety. Once you have joined a group, they are available to have a one to one chat with anyone who might need it.
